FAQs

While we understand the importance of extracurricular activities, apprenticeships occur during and after school (ex.-Monday- Friday from 1:30-5:00 p.m.) It may conflict with your participation in extracurriculars. You and your family must choose which is best for you as a student. The possibility of participating in extracurricular activities while in Modern Apprenticeship depends on your schedule and commitments. It is essential to consider potential conflicts and find a balance that works for you.

Transportation is not provided. It is the responsibility of the apprentice and their parents/guardians to coordinate transportation. It is advisable to plan accordingly for your commute to and from the apprenticeship.

The Modern Apprenticeship program is open to all students who are on track to graduate, regardless of their previous work experience. Modern Apprenticeship is an opportunity for you to gain professional work experience. When completing MAP, you will leave with 3 years of professional work experience. It is not necessary to have prior experience in your apprenticeship industry; you will receive classroom and on-the-job training related to your role.

MAP employers may provide apprentices with the opportunity to shadow different departments and roles within their pathway, allowing you to explore different positions after you have started working. This opportunity varies depending on the company.

MAP is a 3-year commitment, and for your third year, there are three options:

1. Option 1: Attend a local college full-time (Ivy Tech, IUPUI, UIndy, Butler, Marian) and work part-time with your employer.
2. Option 2: Attend a local college part-time (Ivy Tech, IUPUI, UIndy, Butler, Marian) and work full-time with your employer.
3. Option 3: Work full-time with your employer and continue working on industry-recognized certification or credential.

Employers in the Modern Apprenticeship Program may offer support for education costs, including:

  • Up to $4,000 for tuition assistance.
  • Up to $2,000 for recommended credentials during high school.

The Modern Apprenticeship work is year-round. Connecting with your supervisor to plan work schedules for school holidays and breaks ensures effective coordination between your apprenticeship and academic commitments.
